In May 2020, the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) will launch five new professional development workshops on the JORC Code. Each workshop can be presented as a webinar (two 2 hour sessions) or a face-to-face seminar (half day).  They are designed to be a convenient and affordable option for graduates, technical staff, resource and reserve professionals, and those in other industries who make use of exploration and mining information.  At the completion of each workshop, attendees have the option to complete an on-line assessment to receive a formal Certificate of Completion.

Derisk is proud to work with AIG to develop and deliver the five workshops, each of which has a different focus comprising:

  • Workshop 1: Introduction to the JORC Code – Designed for anyone new to the JORC Code, including early career geologists and geoscience students considering a career in the resources industry, as well as experienced geologists unfamiliar with the Code.  The workshop will provide an overview of the Code and introduce the concept of the Competent Person.  Examples of  public reports will be presented to illustrate how the JORC Code is applied.
  • Workshop 2: A JORC Code Refresher – Designed as a refresher for geological staff who currently take Competent Person responsibility for public reporting of exploration information and/or Mineral Resources, or those that may be able to do so now or in the near future.  The workshop provides an overview of the key elements of the Code and how it is monitored, focusing on the issues most relevant to Competent Person responsibility, including common compliance issues.  It also covers relevant rules of the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).  Reporting case studies are used to illustrate how the JORC Code is applied.
